FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
What kind of films do you work on?
Anything with moving images. From 15-second social media commercials and longer brand films to feature-length documentaries. We simply adapt our workflow to the length and requirements of each project.
How much does audio post-production cost?
We work with a clear hourly rate and charge standard services transparently at fixed rates. With our internal pricing tool, we can calculate a fair and reliable budget quickly after a short briefing.
Does TONIQ also offer voice recording and voice production?
Yes. At our recording studio in Zurich, we produce voice recordings for advertising, corporate films, podcasts and other audiovisual formats. Our services include voice casting, recording, editing, ADR, as well as mixing and mastering. We work with professional voice talents as well as AI voices – depending on what the project and brand require.
Does TONIQ also handle voice casting and talent fees?
Yes, completely. You give us a brief – age, gender, mood – and we provide a curated casting of suitable voices. We also take care of fee negotiations, buyouts, and scheduling. All you have to do is choose your favorite.
How are professional voice talent fees calculated?
We work transparently according to the guidelines of the VPS (Association of Professional Voice Artists). Fees are made up of the recording fee (session fee) and the specific usage rights (buyouts) required for your media plan. This ensures the usage is properly cleared and the voice talent is fairly compensated.
Do you also handle language adaptations for all of Switzerland (DE, FR, IT, EN)?
Absolutely. We handle the entire process for German, French, Italian, and English – from native-speaker casting to the final mix. Since French and Italian often need a little more time than German, we adapt the timing carefully so the language always sounds natural and never rushed.
Do you offer AI voices?
Yes. We often use high-quality AI voices for temp voiceovers during editing or for social-only content with very tight budgets. But when real emotion, subtle nuance, or convincing acting matters, we clearly prefer human voice talent.
Can we join the voiceover recording live and direct the session?
Absolutely. The best voice direction happens through direct back-and-forth. You can join us in the studio and make yourself comfortable on the sofa, or connect remotely to the recording session via SessionLink, Teams, or Zoom – wherever you or the agency happen to be.
Can the director or agency come to the studio for final approval?
Of course. Fine-tuning things together in the studio saves time and feedback rounds – whether it’s details in the sound design or the final mix approval.
Do you also handle the full sound design, not just the music?
Yes. Music is often only half the story. We create the complete sound design – from foley and atmospheric soundscapes to punchy whooshes and UI effects that give the film the physical impact it needs.
What do you need from video editors to get started?
Ideally, an OMF or AAF file with all isolated audio tracks, plus a reference video with burnt-in timecode (preferably ProRes or MP4).
Why do TV, radio, social media, and cinema require different masters?
Because every platform has different technical requirements. Cinema comes with specific surround standards, television requires precisely measured loudness levels according to EBU R128, and for social media the mix needs to translate clearly even on tiny smartphone speakers. We deliver the right technical master for every channel, ready to meet the relevant specifications.
How do feedback rounds work?
Pragmatically and without surprises. Fine-tuning and small text or volume adjustments are included in our calculation. If the picture changes substantially after the sound mix has been completed, we’ll let you know transparently before any additional costs arise.
